AfDB Rebuts Claims It Plans To Provide Financial Support To EACOP

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has refuted claimed contained in various media claims that the institution plans to provide financial support to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP).

"The Bank strongly refutes the claims in the misleading article, which references a letter by a group of civil society organizations and climate change advocates asking the institution to withdraw from the project due to its potential social and environmental damage," the bank said in a statement over the weekend.

The regional bank said the NEPAD Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility (NEPAD-IPPF) has not provided financing to any Private Sector Company for upstream oil or gas pipeline projects in East Africa.

And that no commitment was therefore made to any party to fund the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project. The project is not included in the Bank’s lending program and the bank is strongly committed to renewable energies.

"The Bank is committed to facilitating the transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient development in African countries across all its operational priority areas," it said.

Minister Namuganza's Son Scores 4 In PLE At Kampala Parents

The state minister for lands Persis Namuganza is a proud mother after her son Rwakabale Dareen Adrian scored aggregate four in the 2019 Primary Leaving Examinations released on Friday by Uganda National Examinations Board at Kampala Parents School.

Rwakabale, who has been a pupil at Kampala Parents School, was hoisted by members of his family and a jovial Namuganza endlessly hugged the young man in a moment of pride.

Kampala Parents School maintained its good record in the national examinations after all its candidates passed to join secondary schools and other post-primary education learning institutions.

Last year, 225 pupils sat PLE at Kampala Parents School and of these, 172 got the first grade and the remaining 54 got the second grade. Among the 172 who got the first grade, 15 pupils scored aggregate four, 16 passed with aggregate 5 while 22 scored aggregate 6.

The School’s principal Daphne Kato attributed the good performance to a good working relationship the school had with parents while preparing the candidates.

“God is good and He has always been on our side. Continue working hard, put our school on the map and be role models,” Madam Kato congratulated the celebrating pupils while handing over the results.

She thanked the directors for catering for the children, providing necessities and required funds that keep the school on top. Kampala Parents School is one of the learning institution owned by the Ruparelia Group, a conglomerate owned by businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.
